The Benefits of Holy Basil (Tulsi)

You may think you know all there is to know about basil: wonderful with a tomato-based sauce for pasta, the main ingredient of pesto, and aromatic addition to salads and other dishes. But that is a Basil...  not Holy Basil. Small difference in name but huge difference in benefits...   Holy Basil is an entirely different plant with benefits all of its own.

What can it treat? 

Found and widely used in South-East Asia, Holy Basil is believed to be beneficial to the whole person: the body, mind, and soul. It is efficacious against ring-worm and some eye diseases, as well as being used to treat bronchitis and malaria, helping to ease diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, and it can soothe eczema and insect bites.

Holy Basil has been found to contain zinc, iron, and calcium as well as Vitamins A and C, along with chlorophyll – all of which help to keep us healthy and strong as we move through our thirties and into our forties. 

It can be difficult to change our lifestyles, especially when we have growing families, more responsibilities at work and generally more stress. But trying to live more healthily is important: it gives us more energy to deal with all our duties and can boost our metabolism and immune systems so that we can counteract the slow but significant effects of aging before they occur.
